Do you have a story you want to tell? For 25 years, I have been crafting award-winning narratives and studying the science of storytelling. I can help you figure out what is–and what is not–your story, chipping away everything to let the most powerful narrative emerge. Below are a few clients I’ve helped.

Marketing

Working with Curious Inc., I’ve helped clients ranging from the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission, to r.Cup to White Crane Construction hone their narratives for maximum engagement with potential markets:

From corporate job to childcare business — why this local woman loves her new career

r.Cup debuts at world’s largest trade show for natural and organic products.

Reporting & Writing

Columbia and Lola Media wanted tell the story of cold-water pioneer Sveta Vold, and of Colombia’s Omni-Heat Helix technology, so they turned to me. I was able to shape Vold’s story into a compelling narrative that also highlighted the benefits of Omni-Heat Helix:

The Ice Queen: Sveta Vold and the Night Water Butterflies Are the ‘Chillest Humans’: As someone who loves to swim in frozen lakes, Sveta Vold understands the need to stay safe and protected in all conditions

Editorial Consulting:

Gabriel Keller, founder of PKK Architects, wanted to get the word out on an issue he cares deeply about: Reinstating the apprenticeship pathway in architecture. I was able to help Keller craft and publish an op-ed on the issue, and to write a talk for the University of Minnesota College of Design’s “Design in 7” series.

Gabriel Keller: Consider Licensure Alternatives: Earning a degree shouldn’t be the only pathway to becoming a licensed architect, writes PKA Architects’ co-founding principal designer.

Research

The Wildling: Young Voices Set Free helps young people compose and perform their stories live on stage in front of their peers. When the organization’s leaders wanted to bolster their mission with the latest science, they turned to me. I composed a research document on the science of narrative and development to guide their mission.

Editorial Project Management

When I asked publisher Anne Trubek if she was planning a Minneapolis anthology as part of Belt Publishing’s “City Series,” she said, “If you’ll edit it, we’ll do it.”

That kicked off a two-year process of soliciting work, seeking out pieces and working with everyone from unpublished writers to winners of the Newbery Award, the Man Booker Prize, the Minnesota Book Award and others honors.

The resulting anthology, Under Purple Skies: the Minneapolis Anthology, was published to rave reviews in 2019. Contributors were featured at several events in the inaugural Wordplay Book Festival.
